BEWITAL is an internationally operating family enterprise in the livestock and pet market.

1963

The businessman Bernhard Wigger founded the company BEWITAL in 1963 in Suedlohn in western Muensterland. The meat agency Essen was also founded at this time.

1965

In order to provide its own animals with the best nutrition, in 1965 BEWITAL began to produce its own feed for the sensitive young animals. In the beginning, the emphasis was on supplying the company's own animals, but within a few years BEWITAL developed into the leading provider of mik replacers for young animals.

1983

Fats are a decisive factor for quality of animal feed. For this reason, BEWITAL built its own fat refinery in 1983. Here too the initial focus was on supplying the company's own needs. Today, however, BEWITAL supplies customers around the world with high-quality refined fat products and has also become a leading provider of these. A special spray mix and freezing process is used to produce pourable, highly digestible fat powder and combinations of fats.

1985

Since the research in the area of livestock was considerably more advanced that that in the field of house pets, BEWITAL made the decision in 1985 to apply its expertise to the fast-growing market for pet food. BEWITAL focuses on demanding pet owners and is now the market leader in individual market segments.

1995

In 1995 BEWITAL developed a waste disposal concept for used fats at their Burlo location.

2000

A pilot plant for biodiesel production with an annual capacity of 12,000 tons was built in 2000. In 1998 the company had already begun to develop its own process for manufacturing biodiesel. Thus the company that is doing business today under the name Petrotec is considered one of the pioneers in the German biodiesel industry, particularly in the processing of waste cooking fats and other vegetable fats.

2002

In 2002 the new biodiesel plant was put into operation with an annual capacity of 50;000 tons.

2004

BEWITAL's pet food factory was completely renovated in 2004. The buildings and technology are once again state-of-the-art.

2005

The biodiesel plant was expanded to handle an annual capacity of 85,000 tons.

2006

In 2006 several restructuring measures were carried out in the BEWITAL Group: Vital-Fettrecycling and Petrotec were sold. The transportation of goods was outsourced when the forwarding agent westrans was founded.

2007

The premixing system and production control in the agricutural division were renovated. The forwarding agent westrans put a new building into operation.

In the meantime, the BEWITAL Group employs 250 peope. At its location in Oeding, BEWITAL produces 135,000 tons in its agricutural, pet food and refining divisions. Seventy percent of sales is domestic, while thirty percent of production is sold worldwide in 40 countries. Despite the company's size and its global commitments, BEWITAL has preserved its independence as a family-owned and operated company. BEWITAL products are manufactured exclusively in Germany and guarantee top quality and safety.

BEWITAL customers have known and valued the individual feeding concepts for the various types of animals for more than 35 years. Many years of experience and the intensive collaboration with scientists and nutrition experts have made BEWITAL one of the most competent suppliers in the field of nutrition for young animals. BEWITAL offers extensive and competent consulting and advisory services for each product line. In addition, BEWITAL customers can also use the services of the company's own laboratory, such as water and iron analysis.
